At Albany Infant and Nursery School, we believe that every child should feel valued, respected and proud of who they are. We celebrate the rich diversity of our school community and recognise that a child's identity is shaped by many factors, including their family background, culture, traditions, beliefs and faith.

Through our Religious Education curriculum, children learn about a range of religions, faiths and world-views in an open, inclusive and age-appropriate way. We encourage curiosity, respect and understanding, helping children to appreciate both the similarities and differences that make our communities unique.

We believe that children should be proud of their roots. For many families, faith is an important part of their identity and heritage, and we want children to feel confident in sharing and celebrating what is important to them. By learning about different beliefs and traditions, children develop empathy, respect and an understanding of the diverse world in which they live.

Our RE curriculum promotes our school values and supports children to:

• Develop respect for people of all faiths and none.
• Learn about different religions, beliefs and cultural traditions.
• Appreciate diversity within our local and wider communities.
• Reflect on their own experiences, values and sense of belonging.
• Build understanding, tolerance and kindness towards others.

We work closely with families and welcome opportunities for parents and carers to share their cultures, traditions and faith experiences with our children.

Right to Withdraw

Religious Education is part of the basic curriculum and is provided for all pupils. However, parents have the legal right to withdraw their child, either wholly or partly, from Religious Education lessons if they wish. Any parent considering this should contact the Headteacher to discuss their request and the arrangements that would be made for their child during RE lessons.
