Admissions

Admission to Reception (Foundation Stage 2)

Albany Infant and Nursery School has a Pupil Admission Number (PAN) of 60 children per year group; this means we can admit children in any year group, until the maximum number of 60 children. Each year group can have up to two classes which consist of up to 30 children. By law, we are unable to accommodate more than 30 children in an infant class.

Children may join one of Reception classes from the September before their 5th birthday. We also welcome children and families who would like to join our school during the academic year where spaces are available.

Admissions for a full time place at the school are governed by the local authority - Nottinghamshire County Council.  Parents/Carers need to apply directly to the Council to request a place at the school.

You can do this by visiting Nottinghamshire Schools Admission Hub

Admission to Nursery (Foundation Stage 1)

Nursery application forms can be accessed by contacting our school office.

We believe that each child should feel valued and successful and are committed to providing the highest standards of education and care. High priority is given to establishing an effective partnership with parents.

Admission and Induction Procedures to Nursery

Our Foundation Stage 1 admission procedures aim to secure a smooth and happy transition from home to school.  We offer stay and play opportunities so that your child can become familiar with the environment.   This allows us to talk to you and your child, beginning the partnership between school and home.

Offer of Places to Nursery

Places are offered in accordance with the criteria determined by the governing body. From September 2025, children may attend our nursery on the Monday following their third birthday.  We have a waiting list and children are offered a place according to age. Sometimes priority may be given to children or families with particular needs which have been identified.

Parents are asked to return admissions forms by a specified date.

Information for parents

Parents are given a copy of our EYFS handbook and a welcoming letter for their child.  The handbook covers much of the information discussed at the meeting and aims to be welcoming and informative.

Visits to Nursery

Our policy is that children should have a visit accompanied by parents or carers to the nursery.

These visits are very important in helping children to settle because:

  • They are gradually introduced to an unfamiliar environment with the security of the presence of a known adult.
  • By the time the starting date arrives the child is already familiar with the layout of the learning environment.
  • They have an opportunity to join in with some of the routines e.g. carpet time, child initiated and directed activities, indoor and outdoor play, and possibly hall sessions.
  • We aim to make parents/carers feel welcome and well informed.
  • They can see what happens in nursery and can ask questions.
  • Staff have opportunities to get to know the children and parents before the starting date.

Nursery patterns

Many of our children attend for 15 hours each week, either in the mornings or in the afternoons.  We also offer 30-hour provision - all day - for those families who are eligible.  For those families who are not eligible for 30-hour free provision, additional sessions can be purchased at a cost of £12 per session. We also offer flexible provision and will always aim to meet your needs.  Please contact our friendly school office team, who will be able to discuss your nursery provision requirements with you.
